Omaha Poker Is Fun Too

Even though Texas hold em poker is by far the most popular casino online and poker online game, and I game I love dearly, I often enjoy a good round of pot limit Omaha.
I was playing some Omaha at an online poker room and was involved in a hand that really reiterated the complexities and strategy of the game. In Omaha, where each player is dealt four hole cards, two of which they can use along with three community cards, big hands are common. Since players have more hole cards, there’s a higher percentage of straights, flushes, and full boats. So you really have to be careful, folding straights and flushes is not all that uncommon in Omaha. I was reminded of these complexities in this particular hand. I was dealt 7-7-J-Q, with the jack and queen being suited. A pretty good Omaha hand. One other person raised, and I was the only caller.
Well the flop cam out K-7-2 and I was feeling pretty good. I lead out with a bet, my opponent raised the size of the pot (and was all-in because he didn’t have too many chips left) so I called. Well, as it turned out he was holding K-K-8-9, so I was pretty much toast, unless another 7 came up giving me four of a kind. Of course, that did not happen. It was not a huge pot I lost, but served as a good reminder: always be extra cautious when playing Omaha.
