Monte Bianco Grows in Volume from 2004 as Reported by Glaciologists

New elaborate GPS readings taken on the 15-16th Oct have shown that Monte Bianco measures 4810.6 metres. Mount-Blanc is veiled by a deep ice-cap which has grown by 2.8 m in exactly 2 yrs however more suprisingly the bulk of the snow and ice has nearly doubled up . At any rate that’s according to the experts.
The bulk of ice and snow was computed for the inaugural time during 2000. It measured 14100 cubic meters above 4780 m. It amounted to just 13700 metres cubed in 2000 potentially owing to the heat wave with positive temp as high as 4900 meters height. Still the ice cap has almost doubled since then and today amounts to 24000 meters cubed.
Chamonix town’s renowned local weather forecaster Thaddeus West stated the development in the bulk of the ice is among the counter intuitive results of climate change: The amount of snow has not accumulated generally in the French Alps merely with the climate change we are seeing additional hotter prevailing westerly air currents that bestow rainfall at lower altitudes but in summer this means significant snow that rests higher up than 3500 meters height hence the volume of the ice cap is growing. Counterpoint this to the state of affairs during winter time when snow crystals are exceedingly cold and are transported by the wind so don’t rest on the peak.
Chamonix ski resort is not only renowned for Monte Bianco it is also a world renowned ski resort and climbing center with lot’s of ski deals and ski accommodation offers to be found. And at only 1 hr from Geneva it is ideal for a ski weekend.
